Travel Alberta & UNESCO Historic Sites
Did you know Alberta is home to 5 UNESCO designated World Heritage sites? Two of them are included in our Hidden Gems & Western Highlights Tour. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre preserves and interprets over 6.000 years of Plains Buffalo culture. Through vast landscape, exhibits, and diverse programming, you will learn all about the cultural significance of this cliff to the Plain People, including the Blackfoot Indigenous peoples.
The second site is Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, which symbolizes goodwill and cooperation between Canada and the United States. Referred to as the Crown of the Continent, this area is a Biosphere and home to one of the world’s most remarkable and unique natural environments.
In the same region, The Dinosaur Provincial Park is another fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Alberta Badlands, which stretches over miles of dramatic landscape. This is where, believe it or not, paleontologists dig in the dusty desert and find real dinosaur bones. The site contains some of the most important discoveries ever made from the ‘Age of Reptiles’, with specimens dating back 75 million years. There are spectacular hiking trails to enjoy in the area.
Tour back to British Columbia
After thoroughly exploring all the unique tourist sites in southern Alberta, travel to BC and take a look at the Kootenay and Okanagan regions of the southwest. The Kootenay region is known for world-class ski hills, charming towns and natural hot springs. You’ll be thoroughly relaxed, whether you visit BC’s best small town, Kimberley, or one of the numerous hot springs dotted around the region.
Further west, towards the interior region, you’ll come across the Okanagan region, known for its hot temperatures, lakes and beaches, golf courses, divine fruit orchards and Canada’s top wineries.
