Guest Code of Conduct: Your Pledge to Making a Positive Impact

We are thrilled to welcoming you on our adventures! Before traveling with Discover Canada Tours, please read the Sustainable Tourism Pledge below. These principles are designed to ensure that all guests have a wonderful experience while protecting the environment, honouring local cultures, and respecting each other. As we travel through areas with a unique natural and cultural heritage, it is important that we do our part to preserve them.

I will protect the environment

  • Minimize Plastic Use: Avoid single use plastics whenever possible. Bring a reusable water bottle and ask your guide about water refill stations at each destination.
  • Leave No Trace: We’ve got you covered with garbage and recycling bins on our buses. Let’s keep the wilderness wild—no litter left behind!
  • Use Eco-Friendly Products: When swimming in lakes or oceans, choose Reef Safe sun protection products. If camping, bring biodegradable toiletries to reduce environmental impact.
  • Conserve Energy: Turn off hotel lights when leaving the room and use air conditioning only when necessary.
  • Wildlife Viewing: Maintain a safe distance, avoid loud noises, refrain from using flash photography, never feed wildlife, and be aware of breeding seasons.
  • Prevent Invasive Species: Before hiking in new areas, clean your boots and gear to prevent any unwanted seed or bug stowaways.
  • Stick to Trails: Follow designated paths to protect the environment. Do not remove natural objects, artifacts, or historical items from any site.

I will respect residents and guests

  • Practice Good Hygiene: Maintain good health and hygiene practices, including frequent hand washing, sneezing or coughing into your elbow, and following physical distancing guidelines as instructed by your guide.
  • Be Culturally Aware: Recognize your own cultural values and biases, and understand how they may affect your judgment of others.
  • Respect Differing Opinions: While you may not agree with others’ beliefs, always treat them with respect. Bullying or prejudice of any kind, including homophobia, transphobia, racism, misogyny, ableism, and ageism, is not tolerated.
  • Follow Photography Etiquette: Always ask for permission before photographing people.

I will honour local cultures & communities

  • Honor Sacred Sites: When visiting places of cultural or religious significance, remember their primary purpose and respect their importance to others.
  • Follow Dress Codes: Ask about and adhere to local dress codes to show respect.
  • Be Mindful of Noise: Respect local communities by keeping noise levels low, especially in residential areas and at night.
  • Be the Traveler Everyone Loves: Set a positive example for fellow travelers by respecting local customs and practices.
